Wedding Paper Explained
What is vellum? Deckled edges? Handmade paper? There are so many types of paper and paper pieces that we can include in your custom invitations and if you aren't involved with paper all day every day it can all be overwhelming! So take a dive into all things wedding paper with me and emerge feeling informed and maybe even a paper lover!
Wedding Invitations
The star of the show, your wedding invitations are the paper that bring all of your guests together for your big day! Typically including an invitation card, RSVP card, and a Details card, this paper set announces all of the details and give your guests a glimpse into what to expect for your day.
Custom Map
A special touch, especially for a destination wedding, several out of town guests, or if you just want to highlight some of your favorites spots in town that have a special meaning. The map can be functional for your guests or purely just a fun keepsake - no functionality required! For an in-depth look into custom maps, check out this post here all about custom maps!
Vellum
Vellum is the opaque stock that is frequently used as an invitation overlay or a wrap around the entire suite. Vellum can also be used as a belly band or an envelope. We can print on vellum or leave it plain - either way it is an extra special touch to your invites!
Double Thick Card Stock
Typical invitation stock is 118# and 120# (which indicates the thickness of the paper), but double thick stock involves a process where two of these papers are glued together seamlessly to create 236# and 240# stock. Usually double thick stock is used with letterpress and foil processes, but can be used for digital printing as well.
Handmade Paper
Handmade paper is exactly what it sounds like - made by hand. It is made using a mold and a deckle, and because it is a handmade process the paper has such delicate, gorgeous texture and imperfect shapes and sizes. No two pieces are the same!
Deckled Edges
Deckled edges are the hand torn appearance of the paper and are a product of handmade paper from the frame used to make the paper, but we can still create the effect even if not using handmade paper.
Painted Edges
Painted edges can be done on double thick stock where we will paint the sides for extra luxury. Unfortunately we cannot do this on typical cardstock because the edges are not thick enough, but it adds so much personality and luxury to your double thick edges.
Cotton Paper
Cotton paper is made from cotton fibers and has a soft feel and looks absolutely gorgeous with letterpress ink pressed into it. Such a soft, pillowy look and feel, and long lasting!
Eggshell Cardstock
A fine paper with subtle texture, eggshell is the standard stock that I use because it is cost effective, but thick and beautiful!
