Welcome to the Ivy + Linen Blog!

Hi there! I'm Brenna, owner and designer of Ivy + Linen Design Co., a stationery and paper goods business based in Raleigh, NC! Today starts a whole new journey of entering into the world of blogging and I'm looking forward to walking alongside you and sharing about things I have learned and continue to learn about small business ownership, marriage, inspiration, stationery, and all the things in between!

To start out this blogging relationship well, I feel you should at least know five things about me that you won't find on the About page of my website. There is some fun information there too, but I wanted to mix it up and dig a little deeper today!

  1. I play the electric guitar - I took lessons from fourth grade until I graduated high school. I don't play much any more, but I'm certainly hoping to change that soon! For those that know what I'm talking about, I have a Fender Stratocaster and love it.
  2. My husband, Nick, and I started dating in high school and have been together 11 years, married for 4. We are similar in a lot of ways, but the biggest difference is he is very adventurous/outdoorsy and I simply am not.
  3. We have a very serious breakfast routine in our household - every morning consists of eggs, oatmeal with peanut butter, and fruit. Nick and I each have our specific tasks and the whole routine down to an art. Since this is so normal for us I am always shocked when other people don't eat breakfast!
  4. I'm reading Harry Potter for the very first time at 26 years old. I saw the first movie when I was younger, but that was it. I tried for so long to not give in to the hype, but recently many people have been talking about it and then my parents took my nephew to Harry Potter World and had a blast, so I decided I needed to see what this was all about. I'm currently on book 4, and hope to be done by Christmas so I can watch all of the movies!
  5. I swam on my high school swim team. I wasn't fast and I'm pretty sure I only raced for points once on a relay throughout the entire four years, but I was a dedicated member of the team, showed up to practice every day, and attended all of the meets! It was great exercise and a fun team atmosphere.

I hope this gives you a little glimpse into who I am. Do we have anything in common? I'd love to know!

Thanks for reading along, friends!

Brenna

3 Things I Learned in My First Year of Business

This week marks the one year anniversary of the official launch of Ivy + Linen Design Co. and what a year it has been. I started out the year thinking I would mostly be a shop owner who does some custom work on the side and you know maybe eventually will get into weddings once I feel like I know what I'm doing. Oh how so much can change so quickly!

Three Typical Invitation Wording Styles
Three Typical Invitation Wording Styles

One of the most frequent concerns my brides have is how in the world to word their wedding invitations! Do you keep it very traditional and old school, or should you add some modern flair and only include your first names? The good news is that nowadays there is not really a "right" or "wrong" way to do it - sure, there are some guidelines that can be helpful so you aren't making up all the wording yourselves, but it is your wedding day and your invitations should reflect you and your wedding style.

5 Key Elements of a Wedding Invitation Suite

Oh, the wedding invitation suite. The part of planning the wedding that you either really know what you want or have no clue what an invitation "suite" really is - I mean don't you just send a piece of paper in the mail to your guests asking them to come? And they send something back in the mail? If we are going back to basics, then yes, I guess that kind of is it, but there is SO much more to it than that. And after today you are going to be all kinds of knowledgeable about invitation suites that there will be no more confusion involved!
